Round of 32 — The New Knockout Round

What is the Round of 32?

The Round of 32 is the first knockout round of the 2026 World Cup, played from 28 June to 3 July. It's a new round added because of the expanded 48-team format.

Format

  • 32 teams (24 group winners and runners-up + 8 best 3rd-placed teams)
  • Single-leg knockout matches
  • If level after 90 mins → 30 mins of extra time → penalty shootout if still level
  • Winners advance to the Round of 16

Settlement reminders for knockout matches

  • Win/Draw/Win, Goalscorer, Handicap, Player Performance markets all settle on regular time only (90 mins + injury time)
  • Markets that include extra time will say so explicitly in the market name
  • Penalty shootout goals do not count for any goalscorer market
