What Counts as a "Shot"?

First Shot Of The Match settles based on the very first shot of the match by any player. You may see different stats on third-party sites or broadcasts — the only stats Sportsbet uses for this come from Opta/Who Scored

What is a "Shot?

A shot is any attempt that would have gone into the net/goal if not for:

  • Being saved by the Goal Keeper

  • Stopped by Last Man Defender

  • Shot goes wide & misses or over the crossbar

  • Hitting the goal post/crossbar & bounces out

The following are not counted as shots for this promo:

  • Crosses (even if they end up in the goal — those are recorded separately)
  • Headed clearances or defensive headers
  • Penalty kicks taken in a shootout
  • Shots taken in extra time

You can see a list of who's taken the First Shot via our tracker here

"First shot" — by any player

The "first shot" is the first shot of the match by anyone — both teams included. Your selected goalscorer needs to be the player who took it. If the first shot was by another player on either team, the leg doesn't settle as a winner under the promo (the leg still settles normally based on whether your player scored).

Where can I see the who took the first shot?
