From the 3rd December 2018, a number of financial institutions have changed the way they treat gambling transactions to help minimise potential customer harm from gambling when using a credit card.

What’s changing?

  • Certain transactions that are identified as being for gambling or gambling purposes may be declined based on their balance (specifically a percentage of their credit card limit) at that time.
  • These rules vary amongst financial institutions, with some already banning any gambling transactions already regardless of your balance.
  • All other payment methods are not impacted by this change.
